Freeport senior Grace Soilis puts connects on a deep three-pointer during the fourth quarter of the Yellowjackets 58-38 section win over the Burrell Buccaneers.

The Freeport Yellowjackets celebrated their lone senior Grace Soilis with a win on Wednesday night over section foe Burrell behind a strong showing from their starting five.
After falling behind 14-5 in the first quarter, the Yellowjackets went on a run of their own in the second quarter, outscoring the visiting Buccaneers 22-6 in the second frame to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Jackets strong play continued in the second half, led by their tenacious full-court press that they began to run in the second quarter, Freeport's pressure forced multiple turnovers in the backcourt that led to quick buckets for home squad.
The Yellowjackets went on to outscore the Buccaneers 31-18 in the second half to earn the 58-38 win -- boosting their record to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in section, giving Freeport sole possession of second place in the WPIAL Class 4A Section 1 standings behind only Knoch (5-0)
The loss drops Burrell to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in section play.
Freeport was headed by a trio of double-digit scorers led by Ava Soilis' game-high 16 points with eight rebounds, Melaina Dezort netted 15 points, and Leah Hartman scored 12.
The Jackets also finished the game with 11 steals, led by Dezort who had five, Ava Soilis recorded three steals along with senior Grace Soilis who had two takeaways to go along with her eight points.
Hartman led all rebounders with a game-high nine boards.
The Buccaneers had one scorer reach double-digit points in Katelyn Myers (12 points).
Adeline Landowski had a big night on the boards for the visitors, tying Hartmans' game-high nine rebounds.
